Course Description

An in-depth study of how to lead people to Christ. Special attention will be given to the theology of all aspects of evangelism including the follow-up. Various methods of approach and presentation will be considered. Emphasis will be placed on evangelism and the local church for conservation of results.

Rationale

This course was designed in obedience to the biblical mandate supported by Liberty University to evangelize the lost. Its purpose is to train the student to evangelize and to equip others for evangelism in today’s culture, a skill especially needed by the student studying for a vocation in church and para-church ministries.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Explain the biblical basis for evangelism.
  2. Articulate the role that cultural awareness plays in personal evangelism.
  3. Identify which evangelistic methods and strategies best suit certain cultural beliefs or global perspectives.
  4. Relate the gospel narrative and God's redemptive plan to the Christian life and the call to personal evangelism.

Discussions (2)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences where the student creates a five-part thread in response to the provided prompt and interacts with classmates’ answers. A student is expected to reference applicable readings, presentations, and notes in the discussion threads and replies. In addition, the student should use the Bible as a source.

God's Story Paper Assignment

The student will share how his/her story intersects with God's Story. This paper can be completed by believers and unbelievers. The paper will consist of the following sections:

  1. Identifying a Sinful Nature
  2. Accepting or Rejecting the Redemptive Work of Christ
  3. Living Spiritually

Sharing the Gospel Paper Assignment

The student will write a 750–1200-word paper describing a time this term he or she shared the Gospel. The assignment has two parts:

  1. Preparing to Share the Gospel.
  2. Sharing the Gospel

Partial credit may be given for only completing one half of the assignment.

Quizzes (4)

There will be 4 open-book/open-notes tests in this course. Quizzes: Introduction, God's Story, and Personal Evangelism will cover the Learn material presented within the assigned Modules: Weeks leading up to the test. Each quiz will consist of randomized multiple-choice and true/false questions, and Quizzes: Introduction, God's Story, and Personal Evangelism will contain an essay question. Each quiz must be completed within a 60-minute time limit. Quiz: Final will be open-book/open-notes and will be cumulative without an essay question; this test has double the points and must be completed within a 2-hour time limit. Study guides are provided to assist the student in preparing for these quizzes. Use all three study guides to prepare for the final.

Course Policies

Instructor Feedback and Response Time

Responses to student emails will be provided within 48 hours and assignment feedback will be given within 1 week from the assignment due date.

Formatting Policy

The student will format all written assignments, including discussions, according to the guide corresponding with his or her degree program (APA, MLA, or Turabian). All written assignments in the course, with the exception of Discussion posts, must be submitted as Microsoft Word documents.

Policies

Late Assignment Policy

Course Assignments, including discussions, exams, and other graded assignments, should be submitted on time.

If the student is unable to complete an assignment on time, then he or she must contact the instructor immediately by email.

Assignments that are submitted after the due date without prior approval from the instructor will receive the following deductions:

  1. Late assignments submitted within one week after the due date will receive up to a 10% deduction.
  2. Assignments submitted more than one week and less than 2 weeks late will receive up to a 20% deduction.
  3. Assignments submitted two weeks late or after the final date of the course will not be accepted outside of special circumstances (e.g. death in the family, significant personal health issues), which will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the instructor.
  4. Group projects, including group discussion threads and/or replies, and assignments will not be accepted after the due date outside of special circumstances (e.g. death in the family, significant personal health issues), which will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the instructor.

Course Attendance

In an effort to comply with U.S. Department of Education policies, attendance is measured by physical class attendance or any submission of a required assignment within the enrollment dates of the course (such as examinations, written papers or projects, any discussion posts, etc.) or initiating any communication with one’s professor regarding an academic subject. More information regarding the attendance policy can be found in the Academic Course Catalogs. Regular attendance in online courses is expected throughout the length of the term. Students who do not attend within the first week of a sub-term by submitting a required academic assignment (such as the Course Requirements Checklist, an examination, written paper or project, discussion post, or other academic activity) will be dropped from the course. Students who wish to re-engage in the course are encouraged to contact Academic Advising to discuss their enrollment options. Students who begin an online course, but at some point in the semester cease attending, and do not provide official notification to withdraw, will be assigned a grade of “FN” (Failure for Non-Attendance).
